A study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, showed that "women who used olive oil more than once a day, had a 25% lower risk of breast cancer than women who used it less often."

The study was originally intended to investigate and evaluate the effectiveness of extra virgin olive oil in the prevention of pressure ulcers, a technique that is common in traditional medicine. It was found that the fatty acids present in extra virgin olive oil encourage regeneration of the skin, in addition to increasing its hydration, elasticity and strength.

According to some researchers from the Universities, adherence to a Mediterranean style diet rich in olive oil, fruits, vegetables and fish is associated with better mental and physical health.

According to a new study published in the Annals of Neurology, monounsaturated fats, the "good" fats found in high amounts in olive oil, were associated with better cognitive function and memory, while saturated fats, the harmful fats found in animal fats such as butter, were associated with worse overall cognitive function and memory.
